The First-Timer’s Travel Guide to Yangon, Myanmar (Burma, 2019)

To be honest, Yangon was never on my radar. Bagan for sure, but not Yangon. To me, it was little more than an entry point into Myanmar, an overnight stopover before proceeding to more exotic destinations in the country like Bagan and Inle Lake. I was wrong.

As expected, Bagan failed to disappoint but surprisingly, neither did Yangon. It was my first time in the city and I enjoyed every minute of my time there. Mohinga quickly became a favorite and Shwedagon Pagoda was nothing short of mesmerizing. I’ve seen a few Buddhist stupas throughout Southeast Asia but none ever like that.

Yangon was never on my radar but it’s now on my list of cities I’d like to visit again. And this time, I’m brining Ren and we’re staying longer. I don’t know why, but something about this city just made me…
